communicating with my colleagues on a regular basis.
I share my home with three cats; Alien, Foster and Moses and one bunny, Pebbles. Here is how they all came into my life:
- Foster -
My good ol' friend, Jill, came knocking on my door one day and was upset about a cat that had had been wandering around the parking lot. He would sometimes go up to all the neighbors' doors wanting to get in so he could get some dinner. What we found out was the owners had moved away and left him behind. Well, we both paid half and took Foster (what we named him for foster parents) to the cat clinic to get shots and neutered. Tried to find Foster a loving home, which turned out being with me, eleven years ago.
- Alien -
Jill, a friend of mine, (who has the biggest heart, besides me, when it comes to animals) wanted to capture all the stray cats that lived out by the condominium dumpster and get them all spayed and shots. We called them the cat colony. Well, we found a wonderful vet in Lehigh Acres that gave us a big discount and for weeks went out with gloves and cages, captured them and got them shots and spayed. The adult cats were released back to the wooded area by the dumpster, and we were able to find homes for all the kittens except Alien. My home became his, too, and has been for the past nine years.
- Moses -
Moses adopted ME . Again, (different neighborhood 10 years later) someone had moved away and abandoned their kitty. Moses
appeared on my deck one day looking for lunch. Then one day turned into months. I again packed him up in the car and took him down to get neutered and shots. Moses has been enjoying my pampering now for a year and a half.
- Pebbles -
On my 39th birthday my friend, Kathy, and I went to the pet store to look around. When I passed by the bunnies, Kathy said, "Look at that one, Penny, he is jumping up at you!" So, to see if he really was, I walked by again on the other side. Sure enough, he was stretching his tiny neck and trying to jump up to me. I was nervous because I knew nothing about having a bunny and knew my heart would not let me leave the store without that precious bunny. I told Kathy 'there was no way I could have a bunny.' To be sure the bunny was really trying to get my attention I said 'let's leave and come back in a half hour, and if he does it again, I'll get him.'
Well, Pebbles has been celebrating my birthday with me for the past 5 years and he is still jumping up at me.
